When buying a product, the consumer usually pays attention to its expiration date, but cannot find it on some products. This is due to the fact that many manufacturers indicate the information is hidden in the form of a batch code. As a rule, this is found on perfumes and cosmetics. We tell you how to check the desired perfume by the batch code and how to use it to check the authenticity of the product.

Check batch code online

It is easy to find services on the net that decipher the batch code indicated on perfumes. Sites offer free use of a cosmetic calculator and are available to any user. Sometimes registration is required for verification, in most cases it is not required.

Batch code on the bottle

Typically, platforms operate in the same way. Many resources operate in a similar way. The algorithm of how to check the batch code of the desired perfume on the service:

  1. Select the desired brand of fragrance from the list.
  2. Enter the item number in the specified field.
  3. Press the start calculation button.

After the last step, there are two options.

If the marking is correct, then the service will issue data on toilet water or another product (release date and expiration date). Also, this way you can find out about the delay. If the code is incorrect, the information will not open.

Production dates are calculated based on publicly available data and information received by distributors. Therefore, some positions may not be available for verification.

What is a batch code

On many perfumes, the year of manufacture and expiration in the usual form are not indicated. At the same time, there is a non-standard combination of numbers and letters, which is indicated on the sticker or applied directly to the bottle by embossing or engraving. This explains what an unusual batch code is. Some examples are given in the table.

Where is the batch code and barcode

Brand Decryption
Christian Dior The 1st digit is the year of manufacture, the 2nd character of the code is the month (a - January, b - February, then similarly).
Kenzo The 1st digit of the code is the year of issue.
Givenchy The 1st digit is the year of issue.
Giorgio Armani The 2nd letter of the code is the year of issue. E - 2018, F - 2019 and beyond. Change every 10 years.
Guerlain The 1st digit of the code is the year of manufacture, the second letter is the month (in alphabetical order).

The cipher allows you to check:

  • best before date;
  • date of manufacture.

In addition to practical purposes, a correctly indicated batch code indicates the originality of a perfume. The fact is that not all manufacturers use such a cipher, but eminent and popular firms do not miss this type of marking.

Where is the batch code

The number is located on the package and the bottle at the same time, or on one thing. The place where the code is located can be the bottom of the box and jar or their side.Batch code nyx cosmetics

Finding a batch code is easy, because the manufacturer of a quality product does not hide information about it. Major brands duplicate the code on two packages.

If a batch code is not found on the bottle on the trading floor, then you can contact the consultant with a request for a quality certificate or write to the support service of the required company.

How to check perfume by batch code

Even before buying perfume products, the code must be evaluated visually. In doing so, it is important that:

  • the code was clear;
  • the numbers matched on the bottle and packaging.

If the last point is not fulfilled, then it is definitely a fake.

You can check the batch code:

  • from the seller, having studied the accompanying documentation;
  • on the official website of the company by sending a question by e-mail;
  • through a calculator on special Internet sites.

Using a smartphone right in the store, you can quickly check the goods by batch code online.

More common is a 13-digit number, consisting only of numbers, which is accompanied by a combination of black and white stripes.

What data can be found by decoding the EAN-13 barcode:

  • country of origin;
  • manufacturer's number (according to registration);
  • product code (used within the enterprise);
  • control sign (last digit).

Barcode and batch code for perfumes and cosmetics

Scanners are used to obtain extended information. Without using a special device, you can check the barcode of perfumes online or manually. Mobile applications with a scanner and various sites are used, in the field of which you need to enter a digital combination.

The manual technique is simple, consider it using the example of code 7290010159253:

  1. We add together all even positions, and multiply the resulting amount by 3: (2+0+1+1+9+5) ×3=18×3=54.
  2. We add odd numbers to each other, excluding the last digit: 7+9+0+0+5+2=23.
  3. We add the two obtained values: 54+23=77. The last digit is taken into account - 7.
  4. Subtract 7 from 10: 10-7=3.
  5. We check the equality of the value with the check digit: 3=3.

The coincidence of the calculated digit with the control indicates the authenticity of the barcode. The manual method is not a 100% proof of originality, as counterfeit manufacturers can come up with suitable combinations. The discrepancy between the calculated digit of the control indicates an obvious fake.

    Hello! Unfortunately, not all batch codes work for you, why post them then. I am engaged in perfume, I took another Kilian bottle for testing that year. Customers liked it, but I can’t verify the authenticity anywhere. I'm getting to the point that do not expose brands if you cannot check them, why should people be confused.?

    The information is educational. Never thought about it. I took perfumery in good stores, not eateries. The expiration dates are always normal and there was no doubt about the authenticity. It used to be that with a shortage of everything, there was a chance to stumble upon a fake when they bought from “hands”.

    I always bought a product without hesitation whether it was a fake or not, but chose by aroma. But when you start using it, you only understand what you have acquired. In some, the fragrance lasted from morning to evening, and in some it evaporated instantly.
    Now I will study everything about the product more carefully.

    Hello!
    I have a huge collection of perfumes, I am a professional perfumer. But you do not need to be seven spans in the forehead to understand that the information indicated here is distorted. Perfume, unlike cosmetics, does not have an expiration date if stored properly (otherwise, where would we get vintages from?) And checking perfumes for authenticity by the batch code (!!!) is complete trash. It means you don't know what you're doing at all. And then, where do you think fake-makers copy these codes from? That's right, all from the same original vials.
    All that can be obtained from this calculator is the date of manufacture. Originality is checked by the nose and eyes - by the aroma and the bottle. Each brand has its own set of nuances. Do not get fooled by this nonsense, there you will never check the originality. All a sober head on their shoulders!

    Of course, this feature is very good and will help many to understand the highest quality perfumes that you like. Codes in our time is a big plus that will help more or less weed out low-quality goods that are not needed, of course, by no one. Therefore, such verification is very necessary in many areas.
