Candles Denso - how to distinguish a fake from the original

Candles Denso - how to distinguish the original from a fake Auto

Denso spark plugs are installed on ordinary cars, including Toyota. They should be purchased only in trusted specialized stores, so as not to stumble upon a fake. Why is it important? You can buy and use fake candles, focusing on their cheapness .. But, unfortunately, the joy of saving will be short-lived. Sooner or later, this will lead to a breakdown of the car, to additional costs for repairs and replacement of spare parts. It is not difficult to distinguish the original from the fake, for this you need to carefully study the appearance of the spare part and the packaging.

The appearance of the candle

Original candles have a number of external distinguishing features from fakes. The main differences that are the first thing that catches the eye are seven:

  1. Tip
  2. inscriptions
  3. Frame
  4. Sealing ring
  5. electrodes
  6. Thread
  7. Package

Tip

The tip of the fake, that is, the cap itself, is glossy, while the Denso original has a matte finish. It has no defects, including warps. It cannot be unscrewed by hand.

The casting of the original and the fake is different. The fake has a smooth tip, branded candles have a small depression.

inscriptions

Fake candles also have inscriptions according to the type of marking. But, they are different from the original.

Replica inscriptions:

  1. They are erased if they are rubbed with something hard, that is, not with a finger. A fake candle has a fuzzy marking, which is not only poorly printed, but can also be scraped off or simply disappear when exposed to high temperatures.
  2. Not covered with a special varnish, like the originals. In the original candle, the inscription is protected by a heat-resistant varnish, so it will not work to scrape it off.
  3. They differ externally. The font on the body, that is, the metal part of the candle, may be uneven, bold, blurry. In the originals, it is thin, even, clear, it can be “dotted” and ordinary.Candles Denso - how to distinguish a fake from the original
  4. On the metal central part, the type seems to be "scratched" rather than engraved.Candles Denso - how to distinguish a fake from the original

On a fake, the central electrodes are often not processed (not polished, have a pronounced low-quality surface both at the end of the electrode and on its body), and also not centered. In the latter case, this means that the central electrode is not in the middle of the candle, but is littered a little on its side.

After the cases of selling fakes became more frequent, the company decided to produce candles with different fonts - “dotted” and regular (solid). This fact is confirmed by the manufacturer.

Frame

In a fake, the case is not cast with high quality, traces of the groove from the machines can be seen. Original candles are made by casting. On fakes, bevels, sagging, dimples, blotches are noticeable.

Sealing ring

The sealing ring must not be removed from the threaded connection of the spark plug. If it can be removed, then this is a clear counterfeit.

electrodes

The lower part of the candle consists of 3 parts:

  1. electrode.
  2. side electrode.
  3. Insulator.

See also: top dvrs

The central electrode must be located strictly in the center, made with high quality. Its size clearly corresponds to the size that is written on the package.

On fake candles, the diameter of the central electrode (in particular, its tip) is much thicker than it should be on the original. Check its meaning in the attached documentation and check visually. To do this, you can take some kind of wire, knitting needle or drill of a predetermined diameter.

In the original, the tip of the spark plug electrode is sharp, especially for expensive DENSO iridium spark plugs and other brands.

Moreover, on fairly well-made fakes, this is sometimes the only method to identify counterfeit, since all other elements of the candle are made identical to the original.

To check the size of the electrode, you can take a drill of the desired thickness with you to the store. Attach the drill to the electrode and check the size.

The side electrode on a fake candle is often installed crookedly, and its edge is beveled. The quality of soldering the side electrode of a fake is always lower.

The side and center electrodes must be aligned.

As for the insulator, the original candle has a smooth surface. In a fake, unlike the original, firstly, the surface will not be as smooth (more rough to the touch), and secondly, on the insulator body from two diametrically opposite sides, you can notice and feel the longitudinal protrusions that remain as a result of inaccurate joining of the molding handmade molds.

Thread

For fake candles, the threads are of poor quality. This is due to the fact that metal parts are made on conventional machines. Branded candles are produced on precision equipment, so they are free from defects, except for a manufacturing defect.

In the original Denso spark plugs, the counter electrode is laser welded.

There may be sagging of metal and small irregularities. This is considered the norm of production!

Check Denso Candles by barcode:

Enter 13 digits of the barcode:

Opposite the central electrode, that is, on the counterpart, there is a “receiving” nickel.

The insulator has a perfectly even shape, painted white and uniform.

Notation

Before buying, you should familiarize yourself with the designation system of the original Denso candles. It looks like this:

Package

Depending on the model of the candle, the packaging can be of any color. But, all candles are packed in separate containers, and then in a common one. Each is coded.

The code must be the same on the package as on the candle itself.

The packaging is made of high quality cardboard, assembled well. The original candles, as a rule, but by the way not always, have high-quality packaging. This applies to both material and printing. Pay attention to the quality of fonts and printing so that they are even and the paint does not flow. Fake words may have spelling errors. The print on it is clear, the paint is not erased, does not remain on the hands.

Another recommendation is to buy DENSO spark plugs in the same packaging. Sometimes you can find similar candles on sale, but in the packages of automakers Toyota, Nissan, Honda, and so on. It is better to avoid repackaging, since in this case the risk increases that counterfeit goods may be placed in the original packaging. However, this judgment is not absolute, and there may be exceptions.

Consequences of using fake candles

Spark plug replacement

We recommend looking at original Denso candles here

Fake candles can cost 2-3 times cheaper than the original ones. But, if you want to avoid a car breakdown, premature repairs and financial costs, you should know how to distinguish a fake from the original and buy only in trusted stores.

  • Fake candles can increase fuel consumption. Their sparking is not stable. This leads to incomplete combustion of the fuel. Soot remains on the candle and this contributes to excessive fuel consumption, difficulty starting the engine.
  • Cause a drop in engine power on hills. The heat sink of fakes is poor, since they do not have a copper core. This leads to pre-ignition, causing engine power to drop when driving uphill on motorways.

In addition, the side electrode tends to melt. This can happen due to long use of an overheated candle.

Before buying spare parts for a car, you should make a visual check of the goods. To establish the authenticity of Denso brand candles, you need to know the distinguishing features of the originals from fakes. And, already knowing them, purchase goods in a specialized store or order from the official website of the manufacturer, and not from third-party Internet sources at a price below the market.

Hello! Where did you get the information that it should be exactly 13 digits?

When checking on online sites (copy the number and paste), one more zero is added at the beginning. You get 13 digits. I don't know if this is correct or not. So I got Japanese denso candles from America. Oh how!!

Good day :) Thanks to the author for the article, now I will know how to distinguish the original from the fake, I’d rather pay more for one part than after a breakdown for several parts, and it will also cost a tidy sum :)

Denso are excellent candles, I really use them not in a car, but in a lawn mower and a chainsaw, they are very resource-intensive, unlike the regular ones that came with the devices. By the way, I checked, I have the originals.
